We can’t say the previous report was incomplete just because amendments were made later. Sivananthan: Therefore the 1MDB report, prepared by the NAD previously, was not complete? Saadatul said it was within the A-G’s powers to make amendments.

Saadatul said no.Įarlier during cross-examination, Arul Kanda’s lawyer N Sivananthan asked whether the amendment suggestions to the 1MDB audit report were justified, leading to Ambrin agreeing to amend them. Sri Ram asked her if Najib had requested for a copy of the klia2 report or whether he had requested changes to be made to it. It was reported by Bernama at that time that klia2’s development “had been clouded by claims of cost overruns”. Meanwhile, Saadatul told the court today that the Najib administration had requested the NAD to conduct a special probe on Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) in 2015. Subsequently, however, Shukry received a parcel containing the 1MDB audit report in a package. The court heard that Shukry informed Ambrin about Najib’s instructions but that Ambrin was reluctant to hand over the 1MDB audit report. Shukry had said that sometime in February 2016, Najib told him to get the 1MDB audit report from the NAD, saying the report “needs to be checked before it goes to the printer”.

Prior to the meeting, the court was told, Najib had instructed Shukry to tell government auditors not to include “sensitive” contents such as the name of Low Taek Jho (Jho Low) in the 1MDB audit report. The government auditors then presented their 1MDB findings to the PAC from March 4 to 7, 2016. The court had previously heard that Saadatul, Ambrin and the NAD officers attended a meeting chaired by then-chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa on along with Shukry, senior treasury officials, an official from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and Arul Kanda.Īfter the meeting, the NAD agreed to remove four items, including two sets of financial statements, from the final report.

Najib is standing trial for alleged abuse of power as prime minister and finance minister to obtain immunity from legal action and causing amendments to the finalised 1MDB audit report before it was tabled at the PAC meeting. However, she said that auditor-general (A-G) Ambrin Buang told her to send a copy of the 1MDB report to Najib’s principal private secretary at the time, Shukry Mohd Salleh, which she did. “The auditee will only get their copy (of the report) after we present our findings to the authoritative body, such as the Cabinet or the PAC that had requested the NAD to conduct the probe,” Saadatul said. She told the court that in all the special audit exercises that the NAD had done, it had never given the report to the entities being probed before it was given to the Cabinet or the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), except in the case of 1MDB. “Arul came with the 1MDB audit report and requested that amendments be made,” she said in response to a question by ad-hoc prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram on her meeting with Arul that day.
